Hi All,

I was just looking through the "Topics with New Posts"; or however it's worded and found that one person had spent time going through a particular category and adding responses. Some of the topics were years old...IE I looked at one that was started back in 2005. I wonder if we could have added in the table the date of when the first post was made...The columns would read something like:

poster
topic title
#of posts
first posted to on
last posted to on
#of views
topic category

What do you guys think? Just a thought to make reviewing topics easier. IE, I wouldn't have gone into BookNook topics if I'd realized that the info given on the books was 3 years old...

Actually that's something I've been meaning to suggest for quite a while. I'd like to see that.

I think it's a good idea. I don't really understand why people like to bring topics started years ago back up to the top anyway.

Post 4 by Damia (I'm oppinionated deal with it.) on Sunday, 03-Feb-2008 23:31:56

because they are bored with nothing better to do with their time would be my guess.

I agree i like this idea.

Post 7 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Monday, 04-Feb-2008 8:29:00

I do too. I admit I'm one of the people bringing back board topics that should be dead by now. lol My reason for doing so? boredom.

Post 8 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Monday, 04-Feb-2008 8:35:10

I also happened to bring back some old board posts because when they were active i didn't see them or i wasn't a member. Some of them include Greek mythology topicks or one about my bigg fat greek wedding lol. But i like the original suggestion. It would be nice if we had a column about the date that a topick was started.

Agreed also. Great idea.

Post 10 by Brooke (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 04-Feb-2008 13:11:16

I think it's a good idea!

Post 11 by cattleya (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Tuesday, 05-Feb-2008 12:15:46

First a note, and then some possible additions...I'm now seeing topics dredged up from 2003...It's getting rediculous...Some of the following ideas were suggested by my husband. *smile* Make all topics that haven't been posted to in a certain amount of time "read only". The amount of time is up to the admins...6 months, 1 year? I know this wouldn't help with this recent stuff but...It's an idea. Allow people to choose in their profiles which topics they don't want to see. I think this one needs explained a bit better. An individual goes into their profile and sees the additional question: "I don't want to see in the (Topics with New Posts) anything started more than?..." With the following options: 6 months ago, 1 year ago, 2 years ago, ETC...Then when someone jumps to the "Topics with New Posts" board they will not receive any results that were started before the time they personally selected. That's all for the moment. I've got to go eat...So, what do you guys think?

I don't agree that the topics of old should be read only. It's interesting to see what's been brought up, at least some of the posts (though I do think some of it has been a bit accessive lately, but that's just a personal opinion.)

Post 13 by cattleya (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Wednesday, 06-Feb-2008 4:17:11

It was simply an idea. I don't care. I'm about ready to say f it, and forget getting a premium. The first thing I do is get on here and read, and then I play games if I have time, and I'm fed up. Yes, as you can all probably guess (if many are reading this since it keeps getting shoved down the list do to this...) I'm just a bit pissed off!!! I don't like having to go through 2 pages full mostly of postings that have only 2 posts because someone finds it necessary to reply to every topic with in a particular category. I'd wrather fight with MySpace and so forth than this...And the worst part...I don't think I've even had one single response from a CL, let alone an admin. I fully understand replying to old topics if you missed it and it caught your attention, but damn near (if not all) topics in a given category? Rediculous!

HI cattleya,
NO one is forcing you to read the boards.

The admins are looking at this and it has been discussed by the community leaders.

I think what you may get is a new heading that tells you when a topic was started. That would let you decide whether or not to read a topic.

As far as letting a person choose how old a topic to look at in their profile is an okay idea, but probably won't happen, after all, it's a simple message system, not a complicated news system.

Even having a notice of when a topic was started would be nice. Then I wouldn't be waisting my time in looking at posts about articles (or whatever) that are years old and out of date. I'm glad to know this has been discussed. Thank you for letting me know. *smile* And, no, I don't have to read the boards, but obviously I'm not the only one bothered by this, so...

Post 17 by KC8PNL (The best criticism of the bad is the practice of the better.) on Wednesday, 06-Feb-2008 19:02:52

I also like the idea, and as Bob said, we are looking in to this. It adds a bit of clutter to the boards, but I think it is useful clutter. As for bringing up old topics, I would say that people can do that if they choose, especially if there is something new that is rellivent to the topic. I think the topic that sparked off this entire line of thought was the reserection of the web braille topic, which is fine, and I think this would be a good way to avoid people thinking that web braille may be going away now, when this was old news 2 years ago.

Post 18 by cattleya (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Wednesday, 06-Feb-2008 20:09:08

No, actually it wasn't. It was (and I'd rather not name names) one person responding to every topic in a given category...or most of them anyways. I loaded "Topics with New Posts" one day and almost every topic was from one category, and the posts started as far back as 2003. I didn't look at every one, but that was the earliest I noticed at one point. That was why I came up with the idea. I agree, people can respond to what they want, but when I have to go 2 or more pages deep before I can get anything other than one particular category...And that was my out rage...I must however opologize if I came across a bit strong earlier...I've been on pain meds for more than a week now, and sometimes I simply respond before thinking. *smile* Not an excuse, but simply a reason. I do appriciate all the work that has gone into the Zone. It's generally a great place.

Don't forget, you can also srt by latest topics which would only show new topics on the system.
